:: Laskin Nozzle
Generator ::
Laskin Nozzle Generator
The SPG range of generators are self standing and constructed mainly from
aluminium. The generator is fitted with its own air filter regulator
allowing direct connection to an air supply at between 3.5 bar (SPG150)
and 10 bar. The nozzle pressure is then set to 1.4 bar with the regulator
control. A quick connector is provided for easy connection to your air
supply. Each nozzle is individually controllable with an on/off valve
giving maximum control of the output aerosol. These generators are
designed specifically for the aerosol filter test industry for the testing
of filters at point of manufacture and in-situ.
The principal of operation is the pneumatic shearing of the oil by high
velocity gas which produces a well defined aerosol output. The gas may be
any non-toxic gas such as compressed air, argon, helium or nitrogen. Gas
consumption is 21.5 litre per minute per nozzle per hole at a pressure of
1.4 to 1.7 bar(20 - 25 psi). The output is nominally 3 mg/minute per
output litre/per nozzle.
These generator may be used with most light oils. The most common of the
light oils are Ondina EL, Emery 3004, DOP or DEHS - both plasticisers. The
particle size produced meets the requirements of all international filter
test standards and in particular the requirements for BS5295 (PD6609-2),
BS5726, IEST RP006-002, NSF 49 and ISO14644-3 (when published).
The SPG-150, is the smallest in a family of standard Laskin Aerosol
Generators. It is capable of providing sufficient aerosol to challenge a
900 m3/hr system at 20 microgram per litre of challenge aerosol. The
SPG-300 is slightly taller than the SPG-150 and is fitted with a second
nozzle. Using the two nozzles, systems as large as 1800m3/hr may be
challenged to 20µg/l aerosol concentration.
Both generators are provided with an air regulator to control the inlet
air pressure (maximum 10 bar) to the required 1.4 bar nozzle pressure. The
SPG-300 is provided with full flow ball valve to allow either one or two
operational nozzles.
DOP600C10 Laskin Nozzle Aerosol generator with built in compressor is
designed to provide small quantities of aerosol suitable for challenging
single filter systems such as installed in LAF and MBSC. The generator is
also provided with a compressed air input which may be used in place of
the in-built compressor, making it suitable for operation in hazardous
areas. An internal baffle plate minimises large droplets. Two nozzles each
with two holes are provided.

Optional Accessories
Sparge Pipes
The DOP Filter Test requires that the challenge aerosol be fully mixed in
the system air stream by the time the challenge reaches the filter. In
practise this may be difficult to achieve. This is difficult to achieve if
the aerosol is directly injected into a LAF. The Sparge Pipe Kit provides
you with the tools to ensure good aerosol distribution at the point of
injection. Correctly applied this allows challenge aerosols to be
introduced as close as 1 metre from the filter and still achieve a
homogenous aerosol challenge.
The kit is filled with sparge pipes and fittings of different lengths to
allow assembly to suit the site requirements. Once used the sparge pipes
are removed from the system under test and stored in the easy to carry
transport bag.
The Sparge Pipe Kit is designed to work in conjunction with the Positive
Injection Pump (PIP) family of aerosol blowers. Purchase of the Sparge
Pipe Kit is not recommended if you do not have access to a PIP.

Positive Injection Pump (PIP)
Allows the safe introduction of aerosol to positive pressure
environments. Aerosol is drawn into the PIP at its suction point and
ejected under pressure through a large bore flexible pipe. The system is
provided on a stainless steel stand.

Shell Ondina EL Oil
Shell Ondina EL Oil is almost exclusively used in the UK as an oil to
produce a well defined aerosol for presenting to a filter during a DOP
Filter Test. It is probably the best tested oil in the world from a health
and safety perspective as it is used by Fire Brigades and the BBC in the
production of aerosols. Shell Ondina EL, an extra Light paraffin oil, is
clear and odourless. The oil may be used in pneumatic Laskin Nozzle
Generators or in Thermal Generators.
