KlerkitTM Sterikit Sterile Contamination
Testing Swabs
Klerkit
Sterikit is a flexible and convenient complement to environmental
monitoring and sterility testing for the pharmaceutical microbiologist. It
is an indicator swab system for accelerated detection of contamination on
surfaces, allowing the technician to test for contamination and get fast
results that can then be acted upon. Sterikit will reveal even low-level
microbial contamination, but will not give specific information about
types of organism. Following are some of the advantages:
• Visual indication of contamination: Sterikit combines the
benefits of swabbing techniques
with contact plate techniques, so gives a rapid visual indication of
contamination with a
simple colour change. It consists of two components:
• Tube is filled with an optimised semi solid medium formulation and BP
recommended
buffer solution to maximise recovery and growth of stressed
anaerobic, micro-aerophilic
and aerobic organisms.
• A Dacron-tipped swab, which is pre-moistened with a Thiosulphate ringer
solution.
• Improved sampling: Pre-moistened, sterile swab gives improved
sampling from all
surfaces and can be pressed hard against the surface to release organisms
from any
possible biofilm.
• Easy to use: The long swab shaft allows easy access to
difficult-to-reach areas, e.g. in
corners and behind equipment, so Sterikit is ideal for checking the
effectiveness of
disinfecting routines.
• Fast results: The Sterikit produces comparatively fast test
results and requires no
interpretation time, since any colour change is obvious within 24 hours.
• Cost effective: The kit offers an economical method of testing
compared with standard
techniques and quick detection of contamination may prevent the loss of a
pharmaceutical
batch.
• Quality assured: Manufactured at a BS EN ISO9002 and GMP
accredited site. The swab and
tube of medium are bagged together, then double bagged in fives, i.e.
triple wrapped,
before sterilisation by irradiation, to ensure that components and
packaging are sterile and
suitable for use in a cleanroom environment. The components are
irradiated within hours of
production to guarantee sterility and optimise media recovery. Each media
batch is tested
for recovery of British Pharmacopœia (BP) specified organisms.
Certificates of Conformity
and Irradiation with every batch. 1 year shelf life.
Sterikit is tested for the recovery of 10cfu:
